This is Sunday 1-1-2-3 with George.
Each week, you get an easy-to-read breakdown of the latest ideas in product development, with a dash of humor to keep things interesting.
It’s so good, even famous product people subscribe... but only because they want to make sure I'm not stealing their material 😂
Today we have:
Figma's Self Serve Forecast Model
How To Make Difficult Decisions
How To Have Fewer Meetings
How To Break Annual Goals into Quarterly OKRs

📚 Exploring Figma's Self Serve Forecast Model
For those who know me, you may recall that I started out as a pricing analyst.
Modelling is key to pricing, so every time I see a model dissected in public, my ears perk up.
Figma built a self-serve forecast model that accurately predicted ARR growth by consistently being within 5%.
There are some valuable ideas for someone who is new to such models, but what I also want to highlight here: this model isn’t that complex.
In fact, I see people who work on products do this over and over again.
They think they have to look good in the eyes of the people they look up to. When they make something simple hard, it's almost like a badge of honor.
It's possible that the key to success is right in front of us: just take simple, but not easy, steps over a long period of time.
So check it out, or bless your fellow analysts:
👀 How To Make Difficult Decisions
In a nutshell: separate the decision from implementation.
This means that when making a hard decision, like ending a relationship or firing an employee, you should focus on what is best for the most important people involved instead of getting caught up in how hard it will be to carry out the decision.
The customer is the most important person in a business, so decisions should be made based on what is best for them.
I know, easier said than done, eh! Check out my past editions where I look at some decision-making heuristics by Annie Duke.

🤖 ChatGPT Corner
I made a thread this week with some great ChatGPT prompts that PMs can use. I don't know how long this free-for-all party of unrestricted access to the tool will last, but I say take advantage of it when you can:

Who's George?
I’m an underdog product manager.
Product management in New Zealand (where I live) is still a relatively immature discipline. I also came into it late via data science and UX. I may be older than others, but I often feel like a rookie.
To become better at my craft, I learn and explore new ideas relentlessly.
Then I share high-quality, tried-and-true ideas that can be used right away.
How I can help you:
If you’re learning about product as a cross-functional leader, I’ve compiled my best actionable finds in prodmgmt.world.
