The 23rd Edition - On process, compounding & panoramic vision
George Nurijanian
Hello,
Did you know that the famous screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, The Social Network) takes 6-8 showers a day to get over writer’s block? If writing isn’t going well, he takes a shower, puts on different clothes, and tries again.
I might just conduct all my meetings in the shower.

And the next time someone tries to tell you to do something because a big company does it, be suspicious.
Don’t let them infect your company with the thing that is slowly killing theirs.
I am looking for process geeks among my followers. I do believe there’s a lot of value in process, despite what this great article argues. What are some great recommendations around process (books, articles, courses, etc.) can you recommend?

How Panoramic Vision Can Reduce Your Stress and Anxiety | The Tim Ferriss Show

“I have my own theory about why the decline happens … The company does a great job … in some field, and then the quality of the product becomes less important. The company starts valuing the great salesmen, because they’re the ones who can move the needle on revenues, not the product engineers and designers. So the salespeople end up running the company.” - Steve Jobs on innovation at established companies
“Processes are expectations made explicit.” - Andreas Klinger

How ADHD works in life: People with ADHD have trouble distinguishing between background and foreground in their world. So for example, they’ll be working on something at their desk, they’ll look up and they’ll say, “Oh, I need to go water that plant.” Watering that plant becomes just as important as what was in front of them. Then they water their plant and they look around, they say, oh, I need to fold some laundry. When I learned about this, I was struck by how similar this was to my experience of using Slack, if left unchecked.
Compounding & Salary: Inflation is rising! Every extra dollar you negotiate this year is a dollar you’ll make each year in the future. Very few companies will reduce compensation for individuals because of the hit to morale.
Changing People: People have to decide for themselves, inside themselves, that they way they are doing things isn’t working anymore. If they haven’t done that, they won’t be open to doing things differently. Look for situations where people want the help. (a thought from my virtual mentor)
